Canine Nanny 911
Teaching dog training for life

Who is Canine Nanny 911?
A Little About Me and Mine

My name is Mickey Saathoff.

I am the owner and teacher/trainer at Canine Nanny 911.comI have been teaching and training professionally since March 2005.

When I first started I was a checker at a pet supply store. The last thing I ever expected was to have the manager ask me if I had considered applying for the trainer position? I asked him what kind of schooling I would need to apply for the position. He looked at me with a question mark on his face and said, “you've never been a trainer before?” I said, “no, at least not professionally or schooled.” Before I knew it my childhood dream of becoming the first female jockey or going to school to become a livestock vet took a turn into a direction that has changed my life forever for the better.

As of current I am undergoing certification as a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. I foster, school and re-home one dog at a time. In March of 2010 I will be starting school again to pursue my Associates Degree in eLearning Design Specialist to help make your Live Online Training experience with me the best on the net.

I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and a Parrot.

Mona is my 4 yr old tattle tale Great Dane, lol She is also my biggest love at 135lbs. Mona got her name when I was telling my friend how when I picked her up the first time she Moaned. I sat her down and she moaned again. I put her in the truck and she moaned.lol. By the time I got done repeating the word moan what seemed like a million times. lol, I said, "OMG That's her name, Mona." Believe me she has never stopped talking since. lol She makes sure she comes to me while I am working online to let me know as verbally as a dog can, that they are ready for dinner. It is truly hilarious, I really should set up my video camera some time, lol.

Tatonka is apx 5 yrs old. He is an extremely handsome German Rottie. He came to me from a rescue through the american rottie association back east. He went through only gods know what, when Katrina hit New Orleans. He is one of many in yet so few survivors. He was taken in first by a hoarder who had over 100 dogs in kennels in a large shed. The hoarder was then shut down and Tatonka found himself with the Rottie Rescue and a foster in Tx. As luck would have it I found him online and fell in love with what I heard about his personality. With a few small challenges, he has without a doubt becoming a shining star in my life. It amazes me how wonderful and resilient dogs can be. After being stuck in a cage day and night with the hoarder, he fell in love with his own sacred space in his kennel. Riding in my truck is one of his favorite things to do. :) Most of the time he couldn't care less about getting out, lol. He loves it. He loves to give and get attention from everyone including kids. lol , I took him to Home Depot with me the other day and before we got into the store a little girl was trying to get her mom to look at tatonka, I ask her if it was ok, she said yes and the little girl wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a huge hug. You could tell he would have stood there forever, lol.

Nakona is my sweet Little Foot, half and half Golden/Rottie. A few yrs ago I was still actively taking in and rehoming one dog at a time. A very easy thing to do off craigslist. I would find out why the were rehoming and then I would see if I could help them find a way to keep them. Nakona was only 2 months old at the time. I called the woman to find out about her and told her I would love to come and get her. I would make sure that she got her shots and spayed and into a good home. The woman didn't call me back.  It took another friend of mine to call her, after I had called her again and got nothing, to tell her that she was just a woman who was looking for another rottie. The woman said no problem and we were off to get her the next day. Long story shorter, sweet little Nakona was chained between two large bully breeds in the back yard with no water and no shade. At just 8weeks old. She has been afraid of men ever since. Though she has gotten much much better. My heart was broken for her. When I got her back home it was  like my Mona and Tonka had a pup. Not only did her and Mona sleep together, but when she laid between the two of them she resembled each of them. She was home.

Miss Katie is also known in the house as Momma or Momma Kate. She is a beautiful black cat with silver tabby undercoat. Out of all my 6 fur and feather kids, she has been with me the longest. And trust me, she makes sure we all know it, lol. While on a big truck for atlas van lines with my ex husband, we were moving a family from Oregon to back east. Katie was a little black bundle of goopy eyes and runny nose. She was one of 3 kittens and a momma. All of them had homes except for that tiny little sickly kitten. When we asked what was going to happen to her the answer wasn't ok with us. So on the truck she came. She fought a terrible cold and a stomach full of worms. That stubborn little kitten is still just as stubborn, lol. She cleans Mona and Nakona. Gets incredibly upset when Garfield jumps on her, even though its perfectly OK for her to do it to him, lol. She is my morning playtime partner who brings many laughs running around the bed chasing my hand and spitting every time she gets too excited, lol. Some times at night she keeps me young playing hide and chase through the house, lol. She is one of my best inter-species friends. Never saying a word in yet always there for an over the shoulder hug with lots of purr.

My little man Garfield
. Sweet little white and caramel-orange tabby. While walking out of the casino with many other people at the same time, I heard what I thought to be a very tiny meow. Hearing myself say "oh noo way", lol. Listening for the second meow to come, he didn't let me down, lol. Hiding under a pile of wood a scared and scrawny body with 4 little legs. I have always wondered how not only was I the only one to hear him cry out, but how was that no one asked what I was doing, or if I needed any help. After all is said and done, the bottle feeding and the other fur kids helping out I wouldn't trade him for the world. But I would do anything in the world for them in hopes that I could give them half of the love they have given me.

Then there is our Angel. My beautiful grey and white Angel. Angel is an african grey parrot. She was 6 months old when I found her sitting on a cage in the front of a petco. At the front of the registers where everyone could reach for her and scare the heck out of her. She had chewed all of her outer feathers off of her wings and lower body, including her tail. She was the 2nd to last medium parrot at any Petco in the state of arizona after peta had signed an agreement with them that they wouldn't sell any more of the large parrots. I had to be persistent with the regional manager in charge of the animals welfare at petco to get him to release her to me. Plus add an extra 100 dollars on top of the price they had on her cage didn't hurt Im sure, lol..  Angel is the insanely funny and ticky apple of our eyes. She talks to the dogs telling them to come, wait, and stop barking when they are outside barking, lol. If one of the cats starts to stretch on the couch she says their names and tells them to 'knock it off'. She has an incredible vocabulary and her cognitive skills are truly amazing. With out a tail I call my little penguin butt, lol.
They are my babies, my friends and part of my family. They are dogs, cats and a bird. And for what they give to me, they deserve the best in return. Healthy diets, good beds, respect, love in their terms(and sometimes mine, lol), exercise and great health. Some might say that a human is crazy to think of giving up so much for an animal. They forget that we are mammals too. The difference? We have logic.
Thank you for giving me a reason to write down only a small part about my family. It has been a joy.
I hope you enjoy the pics. of everyone. Happy Holidays to you.

How I Got the Name

Canine Nanny 911 was originally formed back in mid 2003. The company name came from a young boy that I was helping with a very large golden lab named King. At 5 months old he weighed in close to 100lbs. And with no need of a diet.

After our second session the mother and son were both kneeling next to King and praising him for the good job he had done that day. Her son of 5 or 6 looked up at me and said, "Nanny 911, King is a good boy." To which I replied, "Yes he is." And then thanked him for my new name. You just can't ignore a compliment like that.

At that moment I chose to keep the business name of Canine Nanny 911.

Why So Cheap?

Canine families come from all financial backgrounds. From the homeless to the wealthy and everywhere in between. I am a firm believer that sharing knowledge saves lives. It is my goal to keep it in reach for all to attain.
